This has been observed in all tested version of Adobe Reader. Clearing these processes and attempting to open Reader again does not work. Task Manager will show Adobe Reader's process (acrord32.exe) listed for each time you clicked to open it, but the GUI (graphical user interface) will not load. If the registry entries, above, do not resolve immediately, try to reboot the computer before proceeding to the next step. Create a new DWORD (32-bit) value named 'bUpdateToSingleApp' and set the value to '0'. Test: if no further issue, we will create another registry entry to prevent future upgrades to 64-bit. Uncheck the Optional Offers and click Download Acrobat Reader to install. Select Windows 10/11 in Step 1, English in Step 2, and Reader DC. Downgraded from Adobe Reader DC 64-bit to 32-bit. NO troubleshooting available in this FAQ resolves this issue. Issue persists with different/new Windows users. They have removed and re-added Adobe Reader DC and then reinstalled SmartDoc printer. Changing security preferences in Adobe does not seem to have an impact. Print dialogue still appears in Adobe outside of ES. Print dialog does not appear for PDFs only - Word docs, etc. Test opening one of these files to make sure it uses the app you selected. This will open the Windows Store and you can then search by file type for a program. If no app is shown, click on Look for an app in the Store. When the Choose an app dialog box opens, click on the app you want to use ( Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, in this example) as the default. Click on the program name or "+" box to assign a default app. To the right of this file type is the program that is currently set as default, or a box with a "+" sign in it that says Choose a default. Locate the file type you need to set a default app for ( PDF for this example). Scroll to the bottom of the right column and click on Choose default apps by file type.
